How To Use A Double Wedding Ring Ruler

The curved ruler is placed upon one or more layers of fabric. Use a small rotary cutter to trace the outline of the ruler. Cut through all layers of fabric. If you find the ruler slips on the fabric, place a sandpaper fabric grip on the underside of the ruler at each end. A small rotary cutter instead of a large blade cutter makes it easier to cut around the curves. To ensure accuracy, cut no more than four layers of fabric at a time. Cut half of the fabric right side up and half of the fabric wrong side up. Eight layers of fabric are needed to complete one block. If you prefer to use scissors, trace the shape with a pencil instead of the cutter.

To cut the first patch, which is an end piece, place the rectangular ruler over the fabric strip so the top template fits around the left end of the fabric strip. Cut along the right edge of the rectangular ruler with a rotary cutter.

Move the rectangular ruler down so the second template from the top covers the fabric that now makes up the left end of the fabric strip. Cut with the rotary cutter along the right edge of the rectangular ruler. This is a center piece.

Continue cutting center pieces. Alternate between the second and third template until there is only one patch left from the original fabric strip. This is another end piece. To check the end piece for accuracy, use the fourth template of the rectangular ruler. The Double Wedding Ring arcs are created with these six patches.

If the end piece is not the correct size try the process again instead of trimming the piece. Make sure the template fits around the fabric strip and is not overlapping the fabric strip.
